Arya News - The grocery brand Aldi has evolved at an impressive pace for several decades, and two of its recent announcements show it`s not slowing down any time soon.
Founded in 1961 in Germany, Aldi was started with a mission to sell quality grocery products at discounted prices. In 1976, the brand opened its first U.S. store in Iowa and, nearly 50 years later, it has 2,400 stores in 38 states with over 45,000 employees, per Aldi" s website. According to a Market Force survey, Aldi is the cheapest grocery store in America based on shopper feedback (via Reader"s Digest ). As the amount of money the average American spends on groceries continues rising, and Trump"s tariffs impact family budgets , saving on food can be especially appealing. Throughout 2025, prices on many essentials have gone up, but Aldi has stayed its course by continuing to get affordable food to its customers.
According to Aldi" s Price Leadership Report 2025, the average household can save up to 36% by shopping at Aldi instead of a competitor. A 2025 Aldi press release highlights a key reason why prices are so low is that more than 90% of items sold there are private-label products rather than big brand names. Loyal shoppers will be happy to hear that the company has only embraced this information in recent months, as it recently announced plans to spread the Aldi brand further than ever: In the coming years, Aldi"s in-house products will be more clearly labeled, while those who may not have an Aldi in their neighborhood as of 2025 could soon see one pop up in their area as hundreds of new locations are slated to open up across the country.

The branding refresh is both significant and already in process. Responding to feedback from customers, Aldi announced in its press release that the brand will be placing "Aldi" or an "Aldi Original" endorsement on all of its product packaging. Some current branding will be switched to the Aldi name, while brands like Clancy"s, Simply Nature, and Specially Selected will remain but display a clear Aldi endorsement as well. Meanwhile, other products will officially be given names already used by shoppers. For example, Kirkwood Breaded Chicken Breast Fillets will be dubbed "Red Bag Chicken." This refresh will continue to unfold over the next few years.
In terms of expansion, in 2025, the Aldi grocery chain planned to open over 200 stores , and it"s made plenty of moves to bring that goal to life in recent months. Several new stores have already opened in Florida and Nevada, and many more are in the works for 2026. That"s well aligned with previously set goals for the chain, including the 2024 announcement that Aldi planned to open 800 new stores by 2028. Aldi also recently purchased hundreds of Winn-Dixie and Harvey"s locations, many of which are expected to be transformed into new Aldi locations in the coming years. In total, the chain has committed to spending more than $9 billion to expand its presence across the country, including by strengthening it in the Midwest and Northeast with over 300 new stores (via PR Newswire ). In short, shoppers all over the country can anticipate seeing more "Aldi" logos than ever before.
